Host Families
The "host family" program is one of the most successful parts of the race, thanks to the cooperation and generosity of people who open their homes to the great athletes coming to run in Falmouth.
We are looking to house male and female runners and wheelchair athletes, most of whom will spend between one and three nights in our town. The race this year is on Sunday, Aug. 10. Generally, the athletes arrive on Friday afternoon or evening and leave on Monday. Occasionally there is an athlete who may come earlier or stay a day later because of travel arrangements made to coincide with other commitments, but this is the exception rather than the rule.
We can usually accommodate preferences in the number of athletes you house, whether the athlete speaks English, the gender of the athlete, and other special requests. We do ask the athletes to fill out a questionnaire to help us in identifying any special requests or needs, but usually their needs are very simple. Because of this careful matching, this program has provided many positive experiences for both host families and guest athletes. Many of our hosts have developed lasting friendships with athletes who return to be hosted by the same families year after year.
